QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK SOMETIMES…

ARE MY PIECES FOOD DISHWASHER/MICROWAVE & OVEN SAFE?

YES!! Any of my tableware pieces are all the above safe! I glaze them with a food safe glaze at temperatures between 1240-1280 to make them very strong for all ceramic related activities. I recommend hand washing to help your pieces live a long and happy life.

DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?

Absolutely!! I love sharing my work with everyone all over the world, just shoot me an email and I can add the country to the shipping options.

DO YOU DO CUSTOM ORDERS?

I sure do!! Get in touch here or my instagram (elga.ceramics) and let me know what you have in mind. Custom orders must reflect my body of work and style, and I will not copy some else work.

DO YOU SELL AT MARKETS?

I sell at markets here in Los Angeles, sign up for my mailing list or follow me on Instagram to be the first to know.

HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE MY PIECE WON’T BREAK IN THE MAIL?

GREAT QUESTION!! I take extra care packaging orders to ensure they don’t break. I make sure your pieces are wrapped in biodegradable bubble wrap and stuffed with paper to ensure they don’t move around.

WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON SUSTAINABILITY?

All my packaging is biodegradable/ compostable aside from my fragile tape, which I need in order for the postie to not throw your boxes around and break your new babies. I recycle all my clay and work with minimal glazes, in a share studio to prevent wastage and power use.

I believe buying a handmade item from a local maker can encourage a more conscious lifestyle that moves away from mindless consumerism all the while, helping your local economy.

HOW DO YOU PRICE YOUR ITEMS?

FANTASTIC QUESTION!!! My items are priced based on various things, firstly the type of clay, material, making time and skill involved in the make. I work with only high quality clay that’s more expensive (yes I am looking at your porcelain), a single piece can take me anywhere from 1-3 hours to make, without factoring the time it takes to sell, store and ship an item.

The time I factor in from the initial make, the underglaze painting which usually takes about 20-40 minutes, the drying time (mugs take 2 weeks), then I bisque fire, glaze and glaze fire them. Firing in a kiln is expensive, glazes are expensive, then we factor in my overheads (studio rental, website cost, market stall prices..), and I have a big boy bill to cover.

Plus… I’m a one Gal show ;)
